Fate/Grand Order Saber Attila1/8 Scale (Good Smile Company) - Figure Review

Hey I know things have been pretty quiet this year on the site, but there has been a lot going on. Between relocating my hobby room earlier in the year, exploration into a new hobby, stupid terrible Apex Legend Battle Pass grinding, and then this global pandemic, I've really fallen off the figure photography train. That does not mean my love of figures has diminished! I just haven't had the time, and with all of my pre-orders delayed and my life in basic upheaval the hobby has been on the back-burner while things simmer down here at home.  There's still no end in sight, but I'm ready to return to the site and hopefully with some nice photographs and thoughts about some of my favorite figures.  This week we have Attila from FGO, brought to you by Good Smile Company.

First things first! This was a very hard figure for me to photography. Her overall shape is that of a plus sign, which made it hard to fit her all in the frame at once in my space here. Thankfully my eyes do not have the same limitations because she's happily on the top shelf of one of my displays, holding her sword aloft and gazing somewhat dismissively at what I can only assume is some civilization that she will casually destroy.  I really don't know anything about this character. I bought her 100% based on looks alone so I can't say much about her origin or anything else.

I had this figure on pre-order from Amiami back in the day but wound up cancelling due to budgetary concerns. I would always go back to her pre-owned listings and hem and haw over whether or not I should finally buy her, until earlier this year I happened into some extra money from eBay sales or something and took the plunge. The thing that most sold me were images of her face. I just love her expression. It's cold and distant with a sadness in her eyes. I am trying to think of how different the figure would look if she had a triumphant or proud expression. It would change her whole dynamic and not in a good way. This expression just conveys so much feeling. I love it!

Of course, can figures even be in my collection if they don't have amazing bodies? Attila is no slouch in this department, and she comes with a rarely seen combination of beautiful dark (for an anime figure) skin tone and slender physique. She's lithe and long, and though her outfit is revealing she's not a bimbo flaunting her body.

Speaking of her outfit, it's hard really to categorize. It's sort of an extremely ornate formal swimsuit or something. I really like the red/blue/green styling on the suit and on her sword. It looks cool and futuristic but also conveys to me that she is some kind of primordial destroyer.

Now that I think about it, this is my second Fate figure I've done on the site and they're two for two petite. Maybe the fate series has a greater proportion of less ridiculously endowed ladies?  It's nice to get a new figure once in a while and have my wife not immediately comment on how big the boobs are, lol.

Her giant sweeping veil and overall height from the sword are going to make it difficult to fit her into some setups, but thankfully her tiny base makes it so that you can kind of squeeze shorter figures in around her no problem.  The veil is a real dust magnet, also, so expect to dust it regularly so it doesn't get grimy.

Anyway, I probably say this every post but I really hope to resume more regular posting on this site as things kind of settle into a new routine here. It's a bad time everywhere, so it's good to take the time to enjoy the things you have for a while. Stay safe, stay home if possible, and try and save some money for all the figures that you plan to buy after the quarantine ends and life returns to normal.

Date A Live - Kurumi Tokisaki - 1/7 - Lingerie Ver.- Figure Review

I'm back with another figure review! This time it's another character I know nothing about really. Honestly, I had to google her name a few times to make sure I had it right and looking at it now I'm still not entirely sure. Apparently she is from a series called Date A Live. What I do know is that Kurumi Tokisaki is a very popular character who has had a lot of merchandise and several figures, though looking back it seems that many of them were from the infamously bad and now defunct Griffon Enterprises.  More recently she has started to get figures from better manufacturers like Alter and this superlative figure from Alphamax.. Normally Kurumi appears in a red and black gothic lolita style dress that I always thought had a certain saloon girl flare to it, but here it seems we've caught her in a more intimate moment. It's quite the outfit, consisting of a corset, garter belt, stockings, bonnet, some ribbons and high-heels. She's striking a prett

Faerie Queen Elaine Standard Ver. 1/5 Scale (Native) - Figure Review

It feels like a lifetime ago that I posted a preview for this figure once it was announced by Native. The world was definitely in a different place then, and perhaps I was as well in regards to this website and also the figure hobby in general. The past year has seen a real slow down in my figure acquisitions, for budgetary reasons and also logistical problems around shipping from Japan. I did still receive a couple of figures however, and Faerie Queen Elaine based on the original character illustration by Tony Taka was one of them.  Just a heads up, in a previous NSFW review I had the castoff pics on a separate linked page but here they're just further down on this page. I remember posting the promotional shots on reddit after she was released, and there and also on MFC people were pretty indifferent to both this figure and Tony's art. They said it was boring and too simplistic, and at the time I too thought maybe this figure was a little plain, however I did not know how wr

Tokyo Otaku Mode - Shop Review

Hello again! Today I would like to do the first of what I expect will be a series of shop reviews covering the best shops to order anime figures and other goods from if you live in the United States.  There are a lot of options when it comes to shops to buy from, so I hope this information can be useful to both new and veteran collectors.  The first shop I'll be talking about is one that I've been shopping with A LOT over the past two years or so: Tokyo Otaku Mode .  My hope is to answer the following question for you: Is Tokyo Otaku Mode a good shop to order anime figures from? The things that most stand out when going to this store are the frequent TOM point promotions and the at first glance high prices of the items. I know that for a year or two after first seeing the site I would wonder about those two things. What are these TOM points, exactly? Why the heck are the prices on this site so high? Well, it turns out there's good reasons for both of those things and e
