Elaine Maid Version 1/7 Scale (Wonderful Works) - Figure Review

Let it be known that I am a Tony Taka fan. His art is maybe a little old-fashioned compared to artists that are hot right now like Mataro, or Nidy-2d-, but the guy has a classic style that translates well into figures, of which many have been made. You only need to look at his MFC entry and see that he has nearly 300 items that he's credited as illustrator on. Impressive! He has a lot of characters that I like, but my favorite must be his elf character Elaine. She's shown up in figure form before as a faerie queen ( see my previous review ), and here she is again as a cute elf-maid struggling against a sudden gust of wind that has blown her skirt up.  From the front the main draws of this figure are Elaine's cheerfully embarrassed expression and her ample cleavage visible through the boob window in her maid outfit. Her arm is drawn close to her body and her hand balled into a fist in apparent surprise or frustration at her situation. The sculpting on the frills and detail

Winter WonFes 2023 Highlights

Well it's that time of the year again, when Wonfes casts its long shadow over our budgets for the foreseeable future. There were A LOT of fantastic looking figures on display this year, and there's not way I'll be able to buy all of them for lack of money and also space. There were, however, a few that I am going to keep my eye on, and I'll put them here in order of how much I'm going to want them.  Arms Note - Swimming Club Manager (Amakuni) This is the companion figure to previously released Arms Note swim team member. I don't know anything about Arms Note, and not really anything about swimming either, but as far as I can tell this is regulation swim attire and equipment. In reality I was so impressed by the quality of the previous figure that this one was always a certain purchase for me. It's just a matter of the pre-order going up.  Azur Lane Chen Hai Vestibule of Wonders (Anigame) This deeply horny Azur lane figure featuring a doubly alternate outfit

DreamTech Super Sonico White Swimsuit Style 1/7 Scale (Wave) - Figure Review

Over the past couple of years, as I've gotten more into swimsuit figures, I've picked up a few Wave figures from their DreamTech line. It seems like the evolution of their Beach Queens line, which as far as I can tell doesn't exist anymore but had filled a space in the market between scale figures and prize figures that is now (somewhat dubiously filled) only by Good Smile's Pop Up Parade line of figures.  DreamTech exists somewhere beyond this in a shrinking arena of "reasonably priced" (by 2020s standards) scale figures of good if not always great quality.  They represent a hard to find good value in a hobby space that increasingly seems bereft of reasonable prices.  Enough about that, though, we don't whine about prices in this luxury hobby here. Lets get on to the figure. When I think of Sonico, I think it's safe to say she's got three distinct features. One is her pink hair, which is present here with some gentle transitions to blue towards th

T2 Art Girls Wan Fu Nyan illustration by Tony 1/6 Scale (SkyTube) - Figure Review

Well it has been some time, but I am still here collecting figures. If anything, my collecting has picked up in pace and is now going as fast as ever. "Why haven't you updated the site?!?" Is what I imagine the hypothetical reader would be asking if anybody actually visited this site, well the answer is that I had some wrong ideas about what the site is and how I should be using it.    Past me, an idiot: "I must try and take the best photos, with a nice background and capture all the most exciting details of every figure." Current me, still an idiot, but an idiot who can update his site: "I will just take pictures of the figure with my phone right where it's at on the shelf and have some fun with it" So, without further ado, I present T2 Art Girls Wan Fu Nyan, 1/6 scale figure produced by SkyTube based on the original character illustration by well known character artist Tony Taka. I really like Tony's art and enjoyed a previous figure based

Dark Elf Village 1st Villager Natigal 1/6 Scale (Vertex) Pre-Orders Open 3/26/21

Vertex has finally revealed the images for the first figure in their upcoming original character series, Dark Elf Village. This villager, named Natigal, looks to be modeled after the dancer archetype common in many fantasy JRPGs. I think she looks pretty cool except for her face, which has kind of an odd expression. Generally the Antenna Shop limited edition variants have had alternate faces, so I'm hopeful that the alternate face will be an improvement, but either way this is one of my more anticipated figures of the past couple of years so I will either be ordering the standard version from TOM to close out my points (since they have basically butchered their free shipping promo and made it pointless to shop at their site now) or from Amiami to get the limited version with the (hopefully) better face. This looks to be a really cool start to a new line of elf figures, and honestly I'm ready for a change because the as of yet un-released elves from the standard Elf Village line

Faerie Queen Elaine Standard Ver. 1/5 Scale (Native) - Figure Review

It feels like a lifetime ago that I posted a preview for this figure once it was announced by Native. The world was definitely in a different place then, and perhaps I was as well in regards to this website and also the figure hobby in general. The past year has seen a real slow down in my figure acquisitions, for budgetary reasons and also logistical problems around shipping from Japan. I did still receive a couple of figures however, and Faerie Queen Elaine based on the original character illustration by Tony Taka was one of them.  Just a heads up, in a previous NSFW review I had the castoff pics on a separate linked page but here they're just further down on this page. I remember posting the promotional shots on reddit after she was released, and there and also on MFC people were pretty indifferent to both this figure and Tony's art. They said it was boring and too simplistic, and at the time I too thought maybe this figure was a little plain, however I did not know how wr
