How to Budget for Your Anime Figure Hobby

I often see people making bad decisions when buying figures. I don't mean that they're choosing the wrong figures or anything, but that they've chosen to pay for their figures using a bad method or are ordering from weird sites or just otherwise doing things in a way that is sub-optimal. This is a big topic, so for this first installment I'll just cover the basics of having a budget and finding some efficient and free ways to fuel it. Note: this guide is from the point of view of a collector in the US. I know that import duties and currency exchanges are different in other countries and that generally you guys in the EU and Canada are boned, so for that I'm sorry.  Credit cards are also a lot different in other countries and they don't have all the insane cash back and promotions we have here in the US. We have it pretty alright here when it comes to shopping I guess. Can't I just buy them all?!?!? (No. The answer is no.) Budgeting for hobbies and

Ane Naru Mono - Chiyo - 1/7 (Ques Q) Pre-orders Open 9/26/19

I would be remiss If I didn't make a post for a new Chiyo figure, considering how big a fan I am of this character.  Pre-orders for Ques Q's rendition of her start tomorrow, for a list price of 21,000 JPY.  Seems very pricey for a 1/7 scale figure, but I think you'll agree that she looks amazing regardless.  Am I starting to regret not holding out for this Chiyo and purchasing Dragon Toy's instead ?  Not quite, but this one definitely has a lot going for it.  If the production paint job is anywhere near as good as it looks on this prototype I think she'll be a winner. Ques Q has posted a huge gallery on their site which I'm re-posting here. Expected release date is June 2020, so start saving your pennies now!

Date A Live - Kurumi Tokisaki - 1/7 - Lingerie Ver.- Figure Review

I'm back with another figure review! This time it's another character I know nothing about really. Honestly, I had to google her name a few times to make sure I had it right and looking at it now I'm still not entirely sure. Apparently she is from a series called Date A Live. What I do know is that Kurumi Tokisaki is a very popular character who has had a lot of merchandise and several figures, though looking back it seems that many of them were from the infamously bad and now defunct Griffon Enterprises.  More recently she has started to get figures from better manufacturers like Alter and this superlative figure from Alphamax.. Normally Kurumi appears in a red and black gothic lolita style dress that I always thought had a certain saloon girl flare to it, but here it seems we've caught her in a more intimate moment. It's quite the outfit, consisting of a corset, garter belt, stockings, bonnet, some ribbons and high-heels. She's striking a prett

Rebuild of Evangelion - Rei Ayanami Complete Figure (Flare) Re-Release

Based on art by Shunya Yamashita whose work inspires the well known and popular Bishoujo figures put out by Kotobukiya, comes this stunning figure of Rei Ayanami. I've always been a fan of Rei but as I got older it became more and more apparent how creepy and weird the otaku obsession with her was. Forgive my ignorance of Evangelion's story (it has been over a decade since I watched it), but isn't she like the clone of Shinji's dead mom or something? WEIRD. Her perennial status as anime sex symbol seems undaunted by the nature of her character, however, and if it means we get figures like this then I'm ok with that.   Here we can see a more mature and grown up looking rendition of Rei. She certainly doesn't appear to be 14 or whatever the canonical age of the Evangelion cast is, in any case.  There was some recent kerfuffle on twitter about a certain popular artist producing up-aged drawings of another 14 year old anime character and all I can say is da

Vocaloid - Megurine Luka - 1/7 - Tony ver. (Max Factory) - Figure Review

Hello and welcome to another figure review on Plastic-Love.net. This week I'm looking at an older figure in my collection: Vocaloid Megurine Luka Tony Ver. 1/7 scale from Max Factory.  This is one of the first scale figures I bought when I was just getting started in this hobby. If only I could have seen back then how crazy my figure collection would get as the years went on, I wonder if I would have still purchased her? Probably.  This was in the height of my Hatsune Miku mania, having just fallen down that rabbit hole starting with an import copy of Project Diva f on the PS Vita. I was instantly enchanted by Luka, who I still think is the prettiest of the female vocaloid designs. I really enjoyed the Luka songs on Project Diva f, especially Megane. Later I would find a lot more Luka songs to enjoy in other games like Just Be Friends and Luka Luka Night Fever. While most of the main vocaloid cast have great songs, I really think Luka is very close behind Miku in terms of
