Winter WonFes 2023 Highlights

Well it's that time of the year again, when Wonfes casts its long shadow over our budgets for the foreseeable future. There were A LOT of fantastic looking figures on display this year, and there's not way I'll be able to buy all of them for lack of money and also space. There were, however, a few that I am going to keep my eye on, and I'll put them here in order of how much I'm going to want them.

Arms Note - Swimming Club Manager (Amakuni)

This is the companion figure to previously released Arms Note swim team member. I don't know anything about Arms Note, and not really anything about swimming either, but as far as I can tell this is regulation swim attire and equipment. In reality I was so impressed by the quality of the previous figure that this one was always a certain purchase for me. It's just a matter of the pre-order going up.

Azur Lane Chen Hai Vestibule of Wonders (Anigame)

This deeply horny Azur lane figure featuring a doubly alternate outfit for Chen Hai has me pretty intrigued. Today I learned that Anigift x Anigame already have a Chen Hai figure in the works for this exact outfit (it also looks stupendous and I'm tempted to get it) but with a dress on and not just this kinda rope bondage thing in the middle of what is essentially a chest-covered reverse-bunny outfit. It also looks really nice. I almost wonder if this isn't just an incomplete proto-type shown in its castoff  configuration because as I said: deeply horny. If this is indeed the final figure it just goes to show that sometimes less is more. This looks fantastic as it is but its unrepentant horniness might be too extreme for my collection, so I'm hoping that this is in fact the castoff display option and there's a way to put the dress on her.

Heso x Bunny (Orchid Seed)

It's a bunny, but also it's a bikini bunny with knee-high stockings based on art by Yom. I love everything about this. The other one looks okay too, but I don't think so much that I would need to get both. I love Yom's characters from Ganbare Douki-Chan, and while I don't think this character is from that series, she has some of the characteristics. Mainly, it's a kind of pleasant-ness that is really appealing to me. Coupled with sensible proportions, I think she really stands out in a see of hyper-exaggerated anime figures. I'm not sure what the scale is. Maybe 1/6 scale?

Meido-Budou (SkyTube)

I don't plan to buy this as I think it's a bit too much design-wise, but I'm curious to see how it turns out. Nidy-2D's art is really cool, but I was disappointed in how his Gal Sniper figure turned out. hoping this one is better. Maybe it'll tempt me once painted, I don't know.

Sasaki Miyuki (Union Creative)

Based on art by Kaedeko, known for his twitter illustration Gaki Kyonyuu (lit. Big Boobs Kid, or something like that). I like this guy's art. Union Creative doesn't have a great reputation, but I think a simple white bikini figure should be something they can pull off. Curious to see how it turns out.

Date A Live - Kurumi Tokisaki - 1/7 - Lingerie Ver.- Figure Review

I'm back with another figure review! This time it's another character I know nothing about really. Honestly, I had to google her name a few times to make sure I had it right and looking at it now I'm still not entirely sure. Apparently she is from a series called Date A Live. What I do know is that Kurumi Tokisaki is a very popular character who has had a lot of merchandise and several figures, though looking back it seems that many of them were from the infamously bad and now defunct Griffon Enterprises.  More recently she has started to get figures from better manufacturers like Alter and this superlative figure from Alphamax.. Normally Kurumi appears in a red and black gothic lolita style dress that I always thought had a certain saloon girl flare to it, but here it seems we've caught her in a more intimate moment. It's quite the outfit, consisting of a corset, garter belt, stockings, bonnet, some ribbons and high-heels. She's striking a prett

Faerie Queen Elaine Standard Ver. 1/5 Scale (Native) - Figure Review

It feels like a lifetime ago that I posted a preview for this figure once it was announced by Native. The world was definitely in a different place then, and perhaps I was as well in regards to this website and also the figure hobby in general. The past year has seen a real slow down in my figure acquisitions, for budgetary reasons and also logistical problems around shipping from Japan. I did still receive a couple of figures however, and Faerie Queen Elaine based on the original character illustration by Tony Taka was one of them.  Just a heads up, in a previous NSFW review I had the castoff pics on a separate linked page but here they're just further down on this page. I remember posting the promotional shots on reddit after she was released, and there and also on MFC people were pretty indifferent to both this figure and Tony's art. They said it was boring and too simplistic, and at the time I too thought maybe this figure was a little plain, however I did not know how wr

Tokyo Otaku Mode - Shop Review

Hello again! Today I would like to do the first of what I expect will be a series of shop reviews covering the best shops to order anime figures and other goods from if you live in the United States.  There are a lot of options when it comes to shops to buy from, so I hope this information can be useful to both new and veteran collectors.  The first shop I'll be talking about is one that I've been shopping with A LOT over the past two years or so: Tokyo Otaku Mode .  My hope is to answer the following question for you: Is Tokyo Otaku Mode a good shop to order anime figures from? The things that most stand out when going to this store are the frequent TOM point promotions and the at first glance high prices of the items. I know that for a year or two after first seeing the site I would wonder about those two things. What are these TOM points, exactly? Why the heck are the prices on this site so high? Well, it turns out there's good reasons for both of those things and e
