DreamTech Super Sonico White Swimsuit Style 1/7 Scale (Wave) - Figure Review

Over the past couple of years, as I've gotten more into swimsuit figures, I've picked up a few Wave figures from their DreamTech line. It seems like the evolution of their Beach Queens line, which as far as I can tell doesn't exist anymore but had filled a space in the market between scale figures and prize figures that is now (somewhat dubiously filled) only by Good Smile's Pop Up Parade line of figures.  DreamTech exists somewhere beyond this in a shrinking arena of "reasonably priced" (by 2020s standards) scale figures of good if not always great quality.  They represent a hard to find good value in a hobby space that increasingly seems bereft of reasonable prices.  Enough about that, though, we don't whine about prices in this luxury hobby here. Lets get on to the figure.

When I think of Sonico, I think it's safe to say she's got three distinct features. One is her pink hair, which is present here with some gentle transitions to blue towards the tips. The finish on the paint makes the more pale pink strands of hair almost look transparent at times. Two is her trademark headphones, which she has got on still in spite of her attire's suggestion that maybe she'll be taking a dip sometime soon. Three is her chest, which is obviously the main focus of this figure. More than usual here, it... defies reality.

LOOK at it. Can you see? CAN YOU SEE!?!?!

No, really, it's perhaps a bit much even for Sonico. I'm not sure that there's a name for this, but there's a certain genre of anime art and by extension anime figures where various anatomical aspects of the subject are blown way out of proportion. White Swimsuit Sonico at least grazes the edge of this category of figures with her beyond belief bazoongas.

Even relative to the other Sonico figures in my collection this is extreme. Even compared to figures in an entirely different scale she might be the biggest. Perhaps my 1/4 scale Yom bunny has bigger boobs. Perhaps.

To be honest I'm not sure that I am totally into it. It's fine. It's a style. It's whatever. I'm not disappointed because it was clear that this is what I was getting when I ordered this figure, and she came out fairly close to the promotional image, but it's maybe just not entirely to my taste.

Also she has a butt. It is present. Perfunctory. I don't think there's much more to say about the physique of this figure because it's utterly dominated by her bodacious ta-tas. There is no room left for analyzing her legs, waist, thighs, or anything else you might be interested in. It's hard to even see that stuff when the field of view is dominated such as it is by this one feature.

I can say a few more things about the figure in general, at least. The whole thing has a kind of satin finish on it. Her skin, her swimsuit, her hair, everything. All of the paint is this way. I think it's to give the impression that she's wet or oiled up or something, and this is reflected in the original art. I think it's fine, but I would have preferred perhaps a bit of variation. As it is it makes the whole of her look kind of slimy, which in my opinion makes her stand out on the shelf in not a good way necessarily.

Messing with the lighting allows us to appreciate her shape a bit more. I don't mean to be negative. I like the figure and it's a good value. A good figure for Sonico fans, even in the sea of Sonico figures. From the side her chest looks even more insane but I wish they could have leaned into this side-boob more in the entire figure by having her kind of turn her head a bit instead of looking straight on.

Lastly, we have the base. Her toes are nicely detailed. All of my non-Azur Lane DreamTech figures have these furry bases. They're ok. I don't think the fur really suits this figure. Why would she be oiled up on the fur? The metallic pink paint on the base rim looks and feels cheap to me, as does the base overall. I think a solid matte pink disk with a simple design or some text would have been better overall. Good bases are a rarity in this hobby though so it's fine. I can be happy that it's not too big at least.

Date A Live - Kurumi Tokisaki - 1/7 - Lingerie Ver.- Figure Review

I'm back with another figure review! This time it's another character I know nothing about really. Honestly, I had to google her name a few times to make sure I had it right and looking at it now I'm still not entirely sure. Apparently she is from a series called Date A Live. What I do know is that Kurumi Tokisaki is a very popular character who has had a lot of merchandise and several figures, though looking back it seems that many of them were from the infamously bad and now defunct Griffon Enterprises.  More recently she has started to get figures from better manufacturers like Alter and this superlative figure from Alphamax.. Normally Kurumi appears in a red and black gothic lolita style dress that I always thought had a certain saloon girl flare to it, but here it seems we've caught her in a more intimate moment. It's quite the outfit, consisting of a corset, garter belt, stockings, bonnet, some ribbons and high-heels. She's striking a prett

Faerie Queen Elaine Standard Ver. 1/5 Scale (Native) - Figure Review

It feels like a lifetime ago that I posted a preview for this figure once it was announced by Native. The world was definitely in a different place then, and perhaps I was as well in regards to this website and also the figure hobby in general. The past year has seen a real slow down in my figure acquisitions, for budgetary reasons and also logistical problems around shipping from Japan. I did still receive a couple of figures however, and Faerie Queen Elaine based on the original character illustration by Tony Taka was one of them.  Just a heads up, in a previous NSFW review I had the castoff pics on a separate linked page but here they're just further down on this page. I remember posting the promotional shots on reddit after she was released, and there and also on MFC people were pretty indifferent to both this figure and Tony's art. They said it was boring and too simplistic, and at the time I too thought maybe this figure was a little plain, however I did not know how wr

Tokyo Otaku Mode - Shop Review

Hello again! Today I would like to do the first of what I expect will be a series of shop reviews covering the best shops to order anime figures and other goods from if you live in the United States.  There are a lot of options when it comes to shops to buy from, so I hope this information can be useful to both new and veteran collectors.  The first shop I'll be talking about is one that I've been shopping with A LOT over the past two years or so: Tokyo Otaku Mode .  My hope is to answer the following question for you: Is Tokyo Otaku Mode a good shop to order anime figures from? The things that most stand out when going to this store are the frequent TOM point promotions and the at first glance high prices of the items. I know that for a year or two after first seeing the site I would wonder about those two things. What are these TOM points, exactly? Why the heck are the prices on this site so high? Well, it turns out there's good reasons for both of those things and e
