T2 Art Girls Wan Fu Nyan illustration by Tony 1/6 Scale (SkyTube) - Figure Review

Well it has been some time, but I am still here collecting figures. If anything, my collecting has picked up in pace and is now going as fast as ever. "Why haven't you updated the site?!?" Is what I imagine the hypothetical reader would be asking if anybody actually visited this site, well the answer is that I had some wrong ideas about what the site is and how I should be using it.

Past me, an idiot: "I must try and take the best photos, with a nice background and capture all the most exciting details of every figure."

Current me, still an idiot, but an idiot who can update his site: "I will just take pictures of the figure with my phone right where it's at on the shelf and have some fun with it"

So, without further ado, I present T2 Art Girls Wan Fu Nyan, 1/6 scale figure produced by SkyTube based on the original character illustration by well known character artist Tony Taka. I really like Tony's art and enjoyed a previous figure based on his drawings, so was excited to get this in the mail recently.

This beautiful tiger girl was produced by SkyTube, one of my favorite figure makers in spite of the fact that I don't actually own many of their figures.  In fact, this might be the only one I own that is actually a SkyTube figure. I have one Alphamax figure (same manufacturer but different product line) that I enjoy quite a bit, but in reality most SkyTube figures are far too lewd for me to display in my house. Even as that standard has continued to slide to the point where now I basically just collect bikini figures and it's "normal," there is still some decency that must be maintained in my collection. In this case it's somewhat more than a bikini as she is wearing a kind abbreviated Chinese dress top, thigh high stockings, and shoes, but essentially it is a swimsuit-type outfit. Perhaps it is lingerie. I don't really know. In any case, it's a very nice looking outfit and in spite of some complaints I have about the production I think they did a wonderful job.

One thing you might notice if you buy this figure, which you should endeavor to do, is that she ships wearing a partially cast-off top. I won't have any photos of that here today because it was a pain to get her decent, but I think the main reason for this is that it's actually impossible to put her top on correctly. As you can see, there are little black clasps that fasten her top closed. After putting on her top which is made out of  more rigid than normal plastic for this kind of accessory it was impossible to close these clasps. You can see where a little peg is supposed to slot to close the top but no amount of effort would make it fit properly. In fact, I broke the top clasp trying and then just gave up. Looking at photos on MFC confirmed that other people had similar issues.

Thankfully I was able to fix the clasp and just move on with my life, but it was a disappointment. I think she looks OK like this, and for those who can there are several castoff options available, including a half top, partially undone bottom, no top or bottom, and every combination between. I think it might be worth revisiting a display with the partially undone bottom as it still covers her up. All options look good and the details are nice. however I worry that due to the difficulty of getting her top on and off paint transfer and scuffing could occur if you change her top too often.

This figure has nice proportions overall and displays well from several angles. She's accurate to the artwork on the box and on the included art cards. Tony took the effort to accentuate her nipples through her top, and they sculpted this accurately which they didn't have to do at all. It's a nice touch.  I really like her hair, and her tail slots snugly into a peg just above her bikini bottom. Actually compared to another tiger
girl I recently got and will probably review soon she is much better, but this is to be expected from SkyTube who I really think are doing amazing work in this price range. I paid around 20k JPY shipped, which given recent exchange rates feels like a steal for this figure.

This is the type of figure that reaffirms my love for this hobby. She's just a pleasure to look at, and as an original character I won't ever look at her and think, "oh i'm not into _____ series as much as I used to be." Maybe one day my brain will rot more and I won't like cat girls or something. It's unlikely, so I look forward to enjoying her for a long time.

Anyway, tell me what you think of this figure down below. I just love her and will be on the lookout for more cat girls in the future.

Date A Live - Kurumi Tokisaki - 1/7 - Lingerie Ver.- Figure Review

I'm back with another figure review! This time it's another character I know nothing about really. Honestly, I had to google her name a few times to make sure I had it right and looking at it now I'm still not entirely sure. Apparently she is from a series called Date A Live. What I do know is that Kurumi Tokisaki is a very popular character who has had a lot of merchandise and several figures, though looking back it seems that many of them were from the infamously bad and now defunct Griffon Enterprises.  More recently she has started to get figures from better manufacturers like Alter and this superlative figure from Alphamax.. Normally Kurumi appears in a red and black gothic lolita style dress that I always thought had a certain saloon girl flare to it, but here it seems we've caught her in a more intimate moment. It's quite the outfit, consisting of a corset, garter belt, stockings, bonnet, some ribbons and high-heels. She's striking a prett

Faerie Queen Elaine Standard Ver. 1/5 Scale (Native) - Figure Review

It feels like a lifetime ago that I posted a preview for this figure once it was announced by Native. The world was definitely in a different place then, and perhaps I was as well in regards to this website and also the figure hobby in general. The past year has seen a real slow down in my figure acquisitions, for budgetary reasons and also logistical problems around shipping from Japan. I did still receive a couple of figures however, and Faerie Queen Elaine based on the original character illustration by Tony Taka was one of them.  Just a heads up, in a previous NSFW review I had the castoff pics on a separate linked page but here they're just further down on this page. I remember posting the promotional shots on reddit after she was released, and there and also on MFC people were pretty indifferent to both this figure and Tony's art. They said it was boring and too simplistic, and at the time I too thought maybe this figure was a little plain, however I did not know how wr

Tokyo Otaku Mode - Shop Review

Hello again! Today I would like to do the first of what I expect will be a series of shop reviews covering the best shops to order anime figures and other goods from if you live in the United States.  There are a lot of options when it comes to shops to buy from, so I hope this information can be useful to both new and veteran collectors.  The first shop I'll be talking about is one that I've been shopping with A LOT over the past two years or so: Tokyo Otaku Mode .  My hope is to answer the following question for you: Is Tokyo Otaku Mode a good shop to order anime figures from? The things that most stand out when going to this store are the frequent TOM point promotions and the at first glance high prices of the items. I know that for a year or two after first seeing the site I would wonder about those two things. What are these TOM points, exactly? Why the heck are the prices on this site so high? Well, it turns out there's good reasons for both of those things and e
